Autumn 1 in Year 5

We have had a busy and exciting first term in year 5. We started off with art week, where we recreated artwork in the style of Tarsila do Amaral. We created paintings, collages and prints. 

In English, we’ve been writing spooky descriptions inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. We’ve been building description using expanded noun phrases and also learnt how to write relative clauses to add extra details to our sentences.

For our topic we’ve been learning all about the UK, and exploring the different countries counties, cities, rivers, mountains and coastlines. We also explored different structures and sculptures. We visited the Olympic Park to see different structures and bridges, and learnt what supported them and made them strong. Then, back at school, we built our own bridges. They had to be at least 30cm long and support a mug.
