Royal Letter Arrives

Acorn class would like to express our condolences to the Royal Family and joins the rest of the nation in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  However, we are also celebrating the wonderful, kind sovereign she was.  We knew Her Majesty was not very well for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations but we sent her 'Thank you for being our Queen' cards anyway. We felt it was important to acknowledge our love and admiration for her.  We learned a lot about her childhood, her exotic pets and felt she must have been truly missing her life-long partner and husband, Prince Philip. We hoped, but really did not expect a response because it was already an extraordinarily busy time for Her Majesty.  Therefore, you can imagine our utter excitement on Wednesday 7th September when a specially marked enveloped arrived signalling the royal reply.

Of course, by Friday morning we were shifted into a different mood.  However, one of our pupils reminded us that we need to hold on to the positives:  That even though we are sad, "I'm still thrilled she wrote to us, you know?"  We were probably among the last correspondences from Balmoral that Her Lady in Waiting had to oversee and for that we are all grateful.  We will miss Her Majesty's warm smile but we also wish her son every success as king. Long live the King!
