Since 1 July 2015, schools have been entrusted with a critical duty outlined in section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. This duty requires that schools, in the exercise of their functions, give "due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism." At Colegrave Primary School, we take this responsibility seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our school community.
Colegrave Primary School firmly believes that extremism and radicalisation should be treated as safeguarding concerns. We hold the values of freedom of speech and the expression of beliefs in high regard, extending these principles to both our pupils and adults, who have the right to express their opinions freely and without fear.
Our school ethos is centred on building resilience in our pupils against radicalisation by actively promoting fundamental British values and equipping them with the ability to challenge extremist views.
Should you ever have concerns about an individual or group with regard to radicalisation, we encourage you to reach out for support. You can contact the Newham Prevent Team at 0203 373 4600 or the Police Anti-terror Hotline at 0800 789 321.
The NSPCC provides valuable information for parents/carers about radicalisation and the associated dangers of extremism. You can access this information, along with links to other supportive services, on the NSPCC webpage.
Furthermore, we offer a range of resources for Parents/Carers and Staff, including e-Learning training on PREVENT developed by HM Government and the Educate Against Hate website—a valuable resource for schools and parents/carers.
